The Cooper Gallery - Open Art Competition

Updated: Jun 1, 2022

After Heather and Debbie submitted their work to The Cooper Gallery in Barnsley we are both thrilled to announce the news we have been chosen as entries for the 2021 Cooper Prize Competition by Barnsley Museums.

This is a fabulous achievement with over 150 artists taking part, 346 artworks submitted over 3 categories from all over the South Yorkshire region.

Then we both received an email saying - I am delighted to inform you that your entry, below, has been shortlisted for the SADLER AWARD and I would like to invite you to display in the exhibition.

To say we were both shocked, excited, giddy and proud is an understatement as neither of us believed we would be nominated. This in itself makes us feel like winners and we wanted to share our story so it inspires other people to have a go and share the beauty of creativity.

The aim for the Cooper Prize Exhibition is to document the exhibition by filming in situ in order to broadcast through Barnsley Museums social media platforms; create a ‘virtual’ launch award ceremony; a digital exhibition; digital jigsaws, all of which will be accessed via the Cooper Gallery website plus lots of social media exposure.

To ensure your safety and the safety of our gallery staff the operations team they have come up with a plan to ensure Covid regulations are met when we dropped off our work.

@CooperBarnsley

In sharing this on creative wellness journey it feels like winning the oscars and we both feel humbled and excited to have been recognised in Barnsley our home town.

Let's hope the restrictions are lifted in the future so that we can both visit the gallery to see for ourselves the wonderful displays of everyone's work it will seem like a dream come true.

As our friendship began in Gary's Art classes at Adult Skills Community learning in Barnsley in 2019 where we both learned to draw and paint for wellness how far our journey has taken us is quite unbelievable.

Both having a passion for creativity and helping others now we have creativewellnessjourney.co.uk who knows what the future holds.

Thank you for reading
